Go with Tara Aytes! - She is professional, honest, trustworthy, and hardworking.
Ok, there are a lot of negative comments on this page, however it is important for readers and apartment searchers to understand that it's all about the BROKER! Best Apartments itself is a perfectly legitimate, well-run, and convenient brokerage agency. If you go with an unscrupulous broker at Best Apartments you might end up with one of the stories listed in this review section. However, if you go with Tara, you absolutely will not regret it. There is no "bait and switch" with Tara. She is honest, trustworthy, really hardworking, listens well, and will not just be your real estate broker, she will also your real estate therapist!
I called Tara because I had a budget on the lower end for a nice one bedroom and many of the "high end" brokers would not give me the time of day. When I called Tara I could immediately tell that she was trustworthy and a good listener so I went with my gut and made an appointment with her despite seeing some mixed reviews of Best Apartments on the web. Tara was great. First, she listened -really listened- to what I wanted and remembered it. When we spoke to confirm, she knew who I was, she remembered our discussion and she was very professional and responsive. When we met to go out and look, Tara was extremely organized, she had a whole battery of places lined up and we set out to look. Tara showed me apartments all along my price range, rather than only at my maximum. Everything she showed me fit my criteria and, as I said, was along the whole spectrum of my budget. She also showed me a very good mix of fee, no-fee, and partial-fee apartments so there was absolutely no push on her part for a fee apartment.
I appreciated Tara's approach because by the end of the day with her, I really had a sense of what was out there. This made me feel better about taking the leap and committing on the spot to the apartment I liked. I knew I hadn't been duped by my broker so I felt really comfortable committing, knowing that I had seen my options.
As I mentioned, Tara will not just be your real estate broker she will also be your real estate therapist! When I was deciding whether to take the leap and commit to my apartment, Tara was so calm and helpful and didn't put any pressure on me. She gave me as much space and time as I needed and by this time, she really knew what I wanted so she was able to calmly talk through all the pros and cons with me (at my request, not her's because, like I said, she asserted absolutely no pressure). She didn't try to spin, she didn't turn cons into pros, she just gave me the time, space and clarity of mind to calmly make my decision.
Another benefit of working with Tara is that because she is so honest, professional, and likable, she has a good relationship with many of the management companies of the buildings we looked at. This helped me a lot as she was able to get me into an apartment that was otherwise inaccessible that day because the super was out. Little things like that really make the difference in finding an apartment and I was so happy that I had a good, solid professional to represent me to the management company, rather than a pushy broker.
This is the second time I've gone through an apartment search in New York and throughout both searches I interacted with many brokers. I think Tara is singular among New York real estate brokers for her honesty, hard-work, ability to listen, and trustworthiness. It was such a breath of fresh air to work with Tara and I highly recommend her to anyone embarking on the craziness of a New York apartment hunt.
